How To Create a Blog Post Image with AI – Step-by-Step Guide

In the Ultimate Guide To Creating the perfect prompt I mentioned that Deep Thought gave everyone the key in crafting a question.

“You have to know what the question actually is in order to know what the answer means”.

In this case I want to create an AI prompt (chatGPT examples below) that generates an image for a blogpost.

Step 1. Ask ChatGPT what exactly you want.

Me:

“I would like an image for my blogpost. What kind of prompt should I use?”

ChatGPT:

“To create an image for your blog post, the prompt will depend on the theme and content of your post. Here’s a guide for crafting an effective prompt:

  1. Specify the subject: Describe what the image should contain, whether it’s a person, object, scene, or concept.
  2. Set the tone: Should the image be professional, fun, dramatic, or relaxed? Mention the mood you want to evoke.
  3. Include visual details: Colors, style (realistic, abstract, comic-book, minimalist), background setting, and any specific objects or actions.
  4. State the purpose: Mention if it’s for a header image, thumbnail, or content illustration.

Here’s an example for a blog post about productivity:

Example Prompt:
“A clean, minimalist illustration of a person working on a laptop in a modern home office. The desk is organized with a plant, notebook, and coffee cup. Soft natural light comes through a large window. The overall mood is calm and focused, with light pastel colors to convey productivity and relaxation.”

If you share details about your blog post, I can help you craft a specific prompt!”

Step 2. Give ChatGPT more details and ask to create the Prompt

Me:

“My blogpost’s headline is The Complete Beginner’s Guide To Fishing. Create a list of prompts based on the guide you suggested above”

ChatGPT:

Here’s a list of potential image prompts for your blog post The “Complete Beginner’s Guide To Fishing, following the guide I mentioned:”

Step 3. – Ask ChatGPT to create the images

Here are the results and the prompts in a nice slider:

1. Illustration of a Beginner Fisherman

Prompt: “A bright and cheerful illustration of a beginner fisherman standing by a lake. The fisherman is holding a fishing rod with a small fish on the line, smiling in excitement. The background shows a calm lake, trees, and soft sunlight, creating a relaxed and welcoming mood. The style is simple and inviting, with warm colors to appeal to beginners.”

2. Fishing Gear Essentials Layout

Prompt: “An overhead view of essential fishing gear laid out on a wooden dock. The gear includes a fishing rod, tackle box, bait, hooks, and a hat. The image is neatly arranged, showing each item clearly with soft natural light and a lake in the background. The colors are natural and neutral, evoking an organized and beginner-friendly feel.”

3. Step-by-Step Guide Visual

Prompt: “A clean, infographic-style illustration showing the step-by-step process of setting up a fishing rod for beginners. Each step is represented with simple images: attaching the hook, adding bait, casting the line, and reeling in a fish. The colors are soft and clear, with easy-to-read labels, providing a quick guide for new fishermen.”

4. Family Fishing by the Lake

Prompt: “A warm, welcoming illustration of a family fishing together by a calm lake. A parent is teaching their child how to cast a fishing line, with other family members sitting nearby on a blanket. The mood is fun and relaxing, with soft colors and a sunny, outdoor setting to convey the enjoyment of fishing as a beginner activity.”

5. Fishing Rod Close-Up

The background shows ripples in the water, with a subtle hint of nature around. The image is dynamic, yet simple, focusing on the essential gear for beginners.”

6. Beginner's Fishing Trip Illustration

The colors are calm and natural, evoking the tranquility of a fishing trip. The style is lighthearted and approachable.”

7. Bait and Hook Close-Up

Prompt: “A detailed, close-up illustration of a hook and bait being prepared for fishing. The bait is a worm, carefully placed on the hook, with the focus on the technique. The background is blurred, showing the water and some greenery. The colors are realistic but soft, making it an easy-to-understand visual for beginners.”

8. Checklist of Fishing Essentials

Prompt: “An infographic-style checklist of beginner fishing essentials, featuring icons or small illustrations of items like a rod, reel, tackle box, bait, and sunscreen. The layout is clean and organized, with light colors and easy-to-read text. The purpose is to help beginners visually grasp the key items they need for a fishing trip.”

Step 4. – Add the Title of you Blogpost

When it comes to adding text to an image, AI generally does a poor job.
One can get into a lot of details when crafting the prompt, font size, type, family position etc… the result is never satisfactory.

Hopefully this feature will improve in the near future.

For this reason I use an app called WordSwag (check it out here). (https://wordswag.co/)

(WordSwag has a ton of presets and styles that don’t require too much tweaking.

You can “swag” anything you want to fit the format of all social media images.

It has over 109k positive ratings on the AppStore.

Or just use Canva.

Add the headline and your desired style.

And Voila:

Notes

Make sure that the text is readable even when looking at the image from distance (think of thumbnails).

Play around with the fonts and styles. Consistency can be achieved across the entire blog if that is desired.

Refine and add more details to the prompts – ask ChatGPT for more options.

You can skip steps 1-2 if you find your image on Pixabay.

Have Fun with it 🙂
